Suspect dead, no officers hurt in Mesa shooting: police

A woman is dead following an officer-involved shooting on Thursday in a Mesa neighborhood.

The shooting happened at around 11 a.m. on May 2 near Center and 14th Streets.

"There are no outstanding suspects and there is no danger to the community," police said.

Investigators say the woman's roommate called 9-1-1 saying the suspect was inside the home threatening her boyfriend.

Officers met the roommate outside who said the boyfriend couldn't leave the house. Police ordered the woman to go outside with her hands up.

They heard a man inside the home screaming for help. Officers went in and one of them opened fire hitting the woman.

"We were able to rescue the male out of the house. At that point, get him out and get him to safety. Once we cleared the rest of the house, we then brought the suspect out to the front of the house to get immediate medical attention," police said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not yet been released.

No officers were hurt, Mesa Police said.
